15. "Wicked Game" - Chris Isaak
Let's start this journey with the temptation of love and the pangs one feels when it is unrequited. No other music video exudes sensuality like these black and white beach scenes featuring former Victoria's Secret model, Helena Christensen, and the California cutie himself.
“Strange what desire
Will make foolish people do."
“What a wicked game to play
To make me feel this way.
What a wicked thing to do
To let me dream of you.
What a wicked thing to say
You never felt this way.
What a wicked thing to do
To make me dream of you.”
We've all fallen for the wrong guy or girl even though we know that he/she will break our heart, but that doesn't seem to stop us from making the same mistake again and again.

Carry-on Conversations
consider a shoe
tomorrow's metaphor for
love. considering
that bribing balloon got you
nowhere
like that chap in a beatle's
song. sung like a direction
dangling
from the lids to the lashes
from my lips toward yours. i dreamt
of things linear and
suri phoenix feathers
strewn
upon forget-me-not heathers
i'd lie myself.
with shoes retied and
daybreak dawning,
i rise with
relish once again
returned.
Poems such as this have earned me the endearing nickname, tortured poet. I wrote this for ENGL 423 while an undergrad at Penn State. Were it to be cataloged, one could find it in the 811 section.

Why You Should Worship a Librarian
This is taken from one of my favorite sites, Librarian Avengers, so go on, get down on your knees...
"Ok, sure. We’ve all got our little preconceived notions about who librarians are and what they do.
Many people think of librarians as diminutive civil servants, scuttling about “Sssh-ing” people and stamping things. Well, think again buster.
Librarians have degrees. They go to graduate school for Information Science and become masters of data systems and human/computer interaction. Librarians can catalog anything from an onion to a dog’s ear. They could catalog you.
Librarians wield unfathomable power. With a flip of the wrist they can hide your dissertation behind piles of old Field and Stream magazines. They can find data for your term paper that you never knew existed. They may even point you toward new and appropriate subject headings.
People become librarians because they know too much. Their knowledge extends beyond mere categories. They cannot be confined to disciplines. Librarians are all-knowing and all-seeing. They bring order to chaos. They bring wisdom and culture to the masses. They preserve every aspect of human knowledge. Librarians rule. And they will kick the crap out of anyone who says otherwise."

Care to Elaborate?
According to Wikipedia, a maven is a "trusted expert in a particular field, who seeks to pass knowledge on to others." A Yiddish word, maven, translated from meyvn "means one who understands, based on an accumulation of knowledge." Therefore, an information maven is essentially one who is an information expert...or in my book, a librarian. And any self-respecting librarian will tell you that Wikipedia is fine and dandy for background reading on a subject, but that it should never be used for research purposes. That's what books and databases are for!
